Shop Small. Shop Black

No, we aren’t a Black-owned business, but stay with me a minute.

You may remember we kicked off our community initiative earlier this year with a goal to share information about issues that impact our community and inspire action through education and awareness. We fondly refer to this intiative as TWA, Tea Wine Action. In September, we hosted a virtual event with Meligha Garfield, Director of the Black Cultural Center at the U of U. We learned not only about Black student life on campus but about the newly established George Floyd Memorial Fund to encourage the development of Black student leaders on campus. Our community has raised over $2,000 to date for the fund and TWA continues to embrace the cause.

Last month TWA hosted an evening to provide information and resources about the election. As we looked to the holidays, the committee regrouped to determine where to focus next. Tired of Zoom and extremely cautious about promoting large social gatherings the idea to use Tea Zaanti’s dining space as a pop-up shop emerged. What a better venue to provide information about some of Utah’s local Black-owned businesses while customers wait for their tea to brew? Enter our first ever Shop Small Shop Black pop-up event. This weekend we are pleased to welcome 5 different and unique black-owned businesses to the space. Vendors will not pay a commission, instead 10% of their sales will be donated to the George Floyd fund at the U of U. Customers will also be able to sign up to join the Utah Black Chamber mailing list as well as pick up a larger list of black-owned businesses they can frequent for their holiday shopping.

If you are in the neighborhood, stop on in and meet the amazing folks from:
