In order to preserve green tea for longer periods of time, tea masters tightly rolled the leaves into tiny ‘pearls.’ Over the years, the tea became better known as gunpowder, as it was believed the tea resembled granules of its namesake. Because the tea is compressed, please be aware that you need about 1/2 the usual amount (by volume) than most teas. Also, the longer it is steeped and the hotter the water, the more astringency you will notice in the cup.

Steeping Instructions: Pour 6 oz. heated water (170-180˚F) over 1 teaspoon tea leaves and steep 2 minutes. Remove leaves and enjoy. Re-steep as desired. NOTE: You may also use boiling water, and infuse for about 30 seconds.
